Of course, you are being towed behind a boat, and the speed would have been set and adjusted according your preference. But the type of sport that wake boarding is, pre-setting things can never be a total solution. You have to have a rider on the boat other than the boat driver. This rider has to continuously keep you under observation, and he should instantly warn the boat driver if he suspects anything untoward. You could sometimes be uncomfortable about the speed that has been set, or there could be obstructions on the path like another boat or another individual. To track all this is the duty of the observer. And you should definitely wear a personal floating device, even if you are quite comfortable with the game.
When you wake board, keep the more prominent of your two feet in front. The more important foot is the right one for more people and so this is the one that should be kept in front. If you are one among the minority for whom the left foot is more important, then so be it. Keep that one forward.
If you are a novice to the game, it is strongly recommended that you begin with a rope length of 30 or 40 feet. With this length, getting into the water, as well as getting out of it, will be easier. Again, for a novice, it is safer to hold the handle of the rope quite low, parallel to the water. The prescribed speed for wake boarding is fifteen miles per hour and this rule has to be adhered to.
In the beginning, the weight of your body on the wake board should be towards the front. Later on, when the body is fully upright and you are standing, weight can be shifted backwards to the back foot.
Practice makes perfect. This is the dictum that you should keep in mind when you start wake boarding so that there will be no disappointments even if you do not get it right at the first time. Simply relax in the feel of the water under you, and over a time, by continued practice, you will become the master of the wakeboard.
